Sound familiar?

Half our new patients start with an apology.
You don’t need one.

Whether it’s been two years or twenty, the first visit is the same: we listen first, examine gently, and explain everything in plain English. Nothing happens without your consent.

“It’s been years — I’m dreading the telling-off.”

You won’t receive one — ever. We have seen every situation there is, and our only interest is where your teeth go from here, not where they’ve been.

“I’ve just moved to Rugby and need a dentist I can trust.”

We’ve been at 3 Newbold Road for over 20 years. Ask around — or read the 500+ Google reviews. Rugby knows us.

“Something’s niggling and I’d rather know than wonder.”

One visit and you’ll know exactly what it is, what it would cost to put right, and how urgent it really is. In our experience, the wondering is usually worse than the answer.

“I don’t want to be sold things I don’t need.”

You’ll leave with a written plan and exact prices to take home and consider in your own time. No pressure at the chair, and no follow-up sales calls. Your teeth, your decision.

“Honestly? It’s not my teeth — it’s the anxiety. My heart races just thinking about the chair.”

We hear this almost every day, and it shapes how we work. A check-up involves nothing more than looking and talking; you set the pace, you can pause at any moment, and nothing ever happens without your consent. And if even that feels like too big a first step, you can begin with a relaxed chat with Georgia instead — no chair, no exam, no obligation.

If anxiety is what’s kept you away, you’re in the majority here — and you don’t have to start in the chair. You’re welcome to book a free, informal chat with Georgia, our treatment co-ordinator, before any appointment. See how we care for nervous patients →

The advice we give every patient

How to keep your mouth healthy
between visits

A check-up is a snapshot — daily habits do most of the work. This is the same impartial advice we give in the chair: nothing to buy from us, simply what the evidence supports.

Watch the sugar — especially how often

We recommend keeping free (added) sugars below 30g a day — roughly seven teaspoons, and less than you’ll find in one bottle of many soft drinks. Just as important is frequency: every sugary snack or drink starts a fresh acid attack on your enamel, so keeping sugar to mealtimes gives your teeth time to recover in between.

An electric toothbrush is a worthwhile upgrade

The evidence is consistent: electric toothbrushes remove more plaque than manual brushing for most people. Two minutes, twice a day, letting the brush do the work — scrubbing hard doesn’t clean better, and over time it can wear enamel and gums.

Any toothpaste — as long as the fluoride is right

We’re impartial on brands, because the brand matters far less than the fluoride. For adults, we recommend checking the ingredients for 1,350–1,500ppm fluoride — that’s what does the protective work. Beyond that, most premium claims are marketing rather than medicine.

Spit, don’t rinse — and clean between your teeth

After brushing, spit out the excess but don’t rinse: rinsing washes away the fluoride that’s still protecting your teeth. Once a day, clean between your teeth with interdental brushes or floss — it’s where brushes can’t reach and where most problems begin.

And every six months or so, a professional clean reaches what home care can’t. Our hygiene page explains the gentle Air-Flow clean →

Before you book

The questions everyone asks

I haven’t been to a dentist in years. Will I get told off?
No. It’s the most common worry we hear, and the easiest to answer: we don’t do lectures. Most mouths that have waited years need less work than their owners fear — and either way, you’ll leave with a calm, written plan rather than a guilt trip.
Do you take NHS patients?
We’re a private practice, so we don’t hold NHS contracts — but we’ve worked hard to keep private care accessible. Your first check-up is £45 for a limited time (usually £65), children’s check-ups are £20, our £22/month Dental Plan covers routine care with 10% off general dentistry, and larger treatments can be spread with 0% finance. If you need an NHS dentist, nhs.uk has a “find a dentist” search, and NHS 111 can help with urgent dental problems.
Do you see children?
Yes — children of all ages are welcome. A child examination is £20, and children’s check-ups are free when a parent is on our £22/month Dental Plan. If your child has additional needs — autism, sensory sensitivities, or simply nerves — tell us when you book and we’ll plan the visit around them: we go at their pace, and nothing happens without their say-so.
Do I need X-rays? What do they cost?
Usually, yes — two small X-rays let us check between your teeth and under old fillings, where problems hide. They’re £10 each, so most new patients pay £65 in total (£45 check-up + £20 X-rays). We’ll always tell you before taking them.
Can I have a clean at the same appointment?
Often, yes. A hygiene appointment with Airflow® — our scale and polish, upgraded — is £92 and can usually be added to the same visit if you mention it when booking. It removes plaque, tartar and coffee, tea and wine stains, and it’s gentler than old-style scraping.
What happens if I need treatment?
You get a written plan with an exact price for each item, in plain English, to take home. There’s no pressure to decide at the chair and no follow-up sales calls. Many treatments can be spread with 0% finance, and our £22/month Dental Plan gives 10% off general dentistry.
I’m genuinely nervous. Can you work with that?
Every day. Tell us when you book and we’ll take it at your pace — a check-up involves nothing more than looking and talking, and nothing ever happens without your say-so. For treatment, sedation is available if you want it. And if you’d rather not start in the chair at all, you can book just a chat with Georgia, our treatment co-ordinator — no exam, no dentist, no obligation. Our nervous patients page explains how →
