Being straight with you
You might not need whitening at all.
If your teeth have darkened from tea, coffee, red wine or smoking, a lot of that is surface staining — and whitening gel isn't the cheapest way to shift it.
The honest order to try things in
An Airflow® hygiene clean (£92) lifts surface stains and often brightens teeth more than people expect — for a sixth of the price of whitening. If the colour underneath still isn't what you want, then whitening is the right tool: it changes the shade of the tooth itself, not just the surface. At your free consultation we'll tell you plainly which one your teeth actually need.
Sixty seconds with our dentist
Is teeth whitening safe? A straight answer.
Yes, when a dentist supervises it. Your teeth and gums are checked first, the gel strength is the legal one, and the trays are made to fit you.
Salons and shop kits aren't allowed to use dentist-strength gel in the UK, which is why their results are limited and why we start with a consultation, not a sale.
Two ways to whiten · honest prices

Suits you if you're happy to whiten gradually at your own pace.
Philips Zoom · in-surgery
In-chair whitening
Suits you if you want a head start in the chair, then home trays to finish the job.
Thinking about straightening your teeth too? Whitening is included free in every all-in Invisalign package (from £3,250) — worth knowing before you buy it separately.
Weighing it up
Home kit, in the chair, or a box from the shop?
The honest differences. Shop kits are cheap and harmless, and for some people they're enough. This is what changes when a dentist does it.
| Shop-bought strips or kits | Boutique home kit, here | Philips Zoom, in the chair | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gel strength | Limited by law to a fraction of dentist strength | Dentist strength, in trays made to fit your teeth | Dentist strength, applied and light-activated in the surgery |
| Result | A little brighter, if the staining is only on the surface | A guaranteed B1 shade, one of the lightest natural shades | Several shades lighter in a single visit |
| Time | Weeks of daily use | Two to three weeks, an hour or so a day, or overnight | About 90 minutes, same day |
| Sensitivity | Mild, usually | Mild and short-lived. You control the pace | Can be sharper for a day or two |
| Checked first | Nobody | A dentist, so decay and gum trouble are found before the gel goes near them | A dentist, same check |
| Price | Under £50 | £550, trays and gel included | £600, trays included for topping up |
Our prices are our own current fees, 0% finance available on both. If the colour is mostly surface staining, a £92 hygiene clean may be the honest first step, and we'll say so at the free consultation.
How it works
Three steps to a brighter smile in Rugby
We check your teeth and gums are healthy to whiten, look at what's causing the discolouration, and give you an honest recommendation — including "just have a clean" if that's the truth.
Philips Zoom in the chair in a single visit, or impressions for your custom Boutique trays to whiten at home at your own pace.
We'll show you how to make the result last. Both options leave you with custom home trays, so top-ups later are quick and inexpensive.

How to keep your teeth white
Whitening gets you the shade — habits decide how long you keep it. A few things most people don't know:
Put milk in your tea and coffee
It's not just dilution — the casein protein in milk actually binds to the tannins that cause staining, so less of them stick to your teeth. Black coffee and black tea are the worst offenders; a splash of milk genuinely blunts them.
Drink it — don't nurse it
Staining is about contact time. A coffee finished in ten minutes stains far less than the same cup sipped over an hour at your desk. Enjoy it, finish it, and swish some water after.
Cold drinks? Use a straw
Iced coffee, cola and fruit juices can bypass your front teeth almost entirely through a straw. It looks slightly silly and works brilliantly.
Rinse after — but don't brush straight away
Acidic food and drink briefly soften enamel, and brushing within half an hour scrubs at it while it's vulnerable. Rinse with water immediately, then brush 30–60 minutes later.
Whitening toothpaste: weak at best, backwards at worst
Whitening toothpastes only polish surface stains — they can't change your tooth shade — and UK law caps shop-bought strips at a fraction of the peroxide a dentist can use, which is why they never seem to do much. Worse: the gritty pastes that rely on abrasive particles slowly thin your enamel, and as enamel thins, the naturally yellower dentine underneath starts to show through. Used long enough, an abrasive "whitening" paste can leave your teeth looking more yellow, not less.
Let a hygienist do the heavy lifting
A professional clean every six months lifts the staining that builds up no matter how careful you are — and if you smoke, this is the one habit that keeps a white smile even remotely achievable. Our Airflow® clean is £92, and it's included in the Dental Plan.
