Who bonding isn't right for — honestly
Composite bonding is brilliant, but it isn’t for everyone — and we’d rather tell you now than at your consultation:
- Heavy bites and grinders — composite can chip under strong grinding; sometimes a porcelain veneer or crown is the honest recommendation for teeth that take a pounding.
- It needs looking after — composite picks up stain from coffee, red wine and smoking faster than enamel or porcelain, and typically wants a polish visit every year or so. It’s repairable in minutes, but it isn’t fit-and-forget.
- If your shade is the problem — bonding is matched to your current tooth colour and won’t whiten with your teeth later, which is why we usually suggest whitening first.
- Unhealthy teeth first — decay or gum trouble gets treated before any cosmetic work. That’s the right order, always.

We quote per tooth so you only pay for the teeth being treated — some people bond a single chipped tooth, while many treat the front six or eight for a fuller result. Can composite bonding repair chipped teeth?

Can composite bonding chip — and what happens if it does?
Honestly, yes — composite bonding can chip, the same way a natural tooth can. It usually happens from biting something hard (ice, pens, fingernails, an unexpected olive stone) or from grinding your teeth at night. The good news is that it's normally a simple fix: because bonding is added resin, we can usually repair or re-polish the chipped area in one short visit — often without replacing the rest of the bonding, and typically far cheaper than the original treatment. Does composite bonding stain?

Composite bonding or veneers – which is better?
They do different jobs. Composite bonding (£250 per tooth) is quicker, more affordable and needs no drilling of your natural tooth, but it can stain or chip over time. Porcelain veneers (£700 per tooth) cost more and involve more preparation, but they're stronger and resist staining for longer.
