Is this you?

Told aligners can’t fix your teeth — or know yourself too well?

Fixed braces people usually arrive here one of two ways: their case genuinely needs movements clear aligners can’t manage, or they simply know a removable tray would spend more time in their pocket than their mouth. Either way, if any of these sound familiar, fixed braces could be your answer.

Told your case is “too complex” for aligners
Badly rotated, tilted or overlapping teeth
A bite that needs proper correction
You know you’d forget or lose removable trays
A teenager who needs set-and-forget treatment
You’d just rather not think about it for 22 hours a day
What are Spark fixed braces?

The gold standard for moving teeth — quietly modernised

Fixed braces remain the most capable way to straighten teeth — no movement is off the table. The Spark system we fit uses modern low-profile brackets and gentle, efficient wires, so treatment is more comfortable and more discreet than the braces you remember. Once fitted, they work around the clock with nothing required from you but turning up to short adjustment visits.

Fixed braces at Rugby Smiles are £3,950 — adjustment visits included, your exact written plan at your free consultation before anything goes ahead, and 0% finance available to spread the cost. Prefer something invisible? Our Invisalign clear aligners start from £3,250 — and the honest comparison lives on our teeth straightening options page.

Why choose fixed braces?

The main benefits of fixed braces

Working while you sleep, eat and forget about them

Nothing to take out, lose or remember. Your braces are on the job 24/7 from fitting day to reveal day — progress never depends on your discipline.

No case too complex

Rotations, tilts, bite correction — fixed braces produce the full range of tooth movements, including ones aligners struggle with. If you were declined for aligners, this is usually the answer.

One honest price — £3,950

Written plan before anything starts, adjustment visits included, 0% finance available. No surprises at any point — the same promise we make on every page of this website.

Your fixed braces journey

How it works at Rugby Smiles

1. Free consultation

Dr Ashwin Patel examines your teeth and your bite, and tells you honestly whether fixed braces, Invisalign — or nothing at all — is the right answer. No charge, no obligation, no pressure.

2. Your written plan

Records, photos and X-rays become a plan with a realistic timeline and the exact £3,950 price in writing, to take home and think about.

3. Fitting

Your Spark braces are fitted in a single comfortable appointment. The first week takes some getting used to — we’ll tell you exactly what to expect and send you home with everything you need.

4. Adjustments every few weeks

Short, regular visits with Ashwin keep your teeth moving on schedule — and the visible progress between visits is genuinely satisfying.

5. The reveal — and retainers

Braces off, and the smile you’ve been watching arrive is yours. We plan your retainers with you (removable from £150 per arch, or a discreet fixed wire behind the teeth) so it stays that way for good.

Common questions about fixed braces

Fixed brace questions, answered honestly

How much do fixed braces cost in Rugby?
Spark fixed braces at Rugby Smiles are £3,950, with your exact plan confirmed in writing at your free consultation before anything begins. 0% finance is available to spread the cost. For comparison, our Invisalign clear aligner packages start from £3,250 — the honest comparison between the two is on our teeth straightening options page.
Do you do metal braces?
Yes — “metal braces” and “train tracks” are what most people call fixed braces, and that’s exactly what this page is about. The Spark system we fit is the modern evolution: slimmer, lower-profile brackets and gentler wires, far more comfortable and discreet than the braces you remember from school — with the same around-the-clock straightening power. £3,950 with your plan in writing first.
Do fixed braces hurt?
Fitting doesn’t hurt. Your teeth will ache for a few days after fitting and after some adjustments — it’s the feeling of teeth actually moving, and normal painkillers handle it. Brackets can rub the inside of your lips at first; orthodontic wax sorts that while your mouth adapts, usually within a couple of weeks.
How long will I need to wear them?
Typically 12 to 24 months depending on how far your teeth need to move — complex cases take longer, and we’d rather give you a realistic timeline at your consultation than a flattering one. You’ll see visible progress within the first few months.
What can’t I eat with fixed braces?
The honest list: hard things (nuts, crusty bread, ice), sticky things (toffee, chewing gum) and anything you’d bite into whole — apples and corn on the cob get cut up instead. Everything else is fine. It’s an adjustment, not a diet.
Am I too old for fixed braces?
No. Teeth move at any age — what matters is healthy teeth and gums, which is exactly what your free consultation checks. Plenty of the people we straighten are adults who’ve waited decades to finally do it.
Why choose fixed braces over Invisalign?
Two good reasons: your case needs movements aligners can’t deliver, or you know that remembering to wear trays 22 hours a day isn’t you. If neither applies, aligners may suit you better — and we’ll tell you that plainly at your consultation, because our Invisalign treatment is the right answer for most adults. The choice should fit your teeth and your life, not our preference.
How do I keep my teeth clean with braces on?
More carefully than usual — brackets give food and plaque extra places to hide. We’ll show you the technique at fitting (interdental brushes become your best friend), and regular hygiene visits during treatment keep everything healthy so your reveal day isn’t spoiled by staining.
Eighteen months from now

Two ways this can go

✓ You came in for the free look

The braces are off — or nearly — and the crooked smile you spent years half-hiding is straight. It happened quietly in the background of your life, without a single day of tray-discipline, while you got on with everything else.

You kept putting it off

Nothing dramatic — but crowding tends to tighten with age rather than ease, and eighteen months passes at exactly the same speed either way. If now’s not the time, that’s fine — no lectures when you’re ready. That’s a promise.
