First, the promise: we don't pull teeth that can be saved

An extraction is sometimes the right answer — but it's permanent, so it should always be the considered answer. Before removing any tooth we'll tell you honestly whether it could be saved instead, usually with root canal treatment, and what both routes cost. Plenty of patients arrive asking for a tooth out and leave delighted to have kept it. And when removal genuinely is the best option — or simply the option you choose — we'll say that plainly too. Which price applies depends on the tooth and its roots, which is what the X-ray tells us — so you'll always know your exact figure before anything is agreed, never after.

Wisdom teeth — usually sorted here, not at the hospital

A troublesome wisdom tooth is its own special misery: the ache that comes and goes, the swollen gum you keep biting, the jaw that doesn't open properly. The usual NHS route is a referral and a wait. In most cases we can remove wisdom teeth right here in the practice — including surgical removals — without a hospital in sight.

Honesty matters here too: a small number of wisdom teeth genuinely belong with a hospital oral surgery team — typically those wrapped around the nerve on an X-ray. If yours is one, we'll tell you straight and refer you properly rather than have a go. That's exactly the judgement the X-ray and examination exist to make.

What actually happens

  • Assessment and X-ray. We look, we X-ray, we tell you what we've found — save it, simple removal, surgical removal, or refer. Written price for each option.
  • Numbing that works. Numbing gel before the injection, then time for it to take properly. You should feel pressure, never pain — and if you feel anything more, a raised hand stops everything.
  • The removal itself is usually far quicker than people expect — often minutes. Nervous? IV sedation means you can be deeply relaxed throughout, and our nervous patient promises apply here more than anywhere.
  • Aftercare in writing — what to eat, what to avoid, and exactly what to do (and who to call) if anything doesn't feel right in the days after.
Afterwards — no pressure, but know your options: a gap from a lost back tooth often needs nothing done at all. Where a gap does matter, the choices are an implant, a bridge or a denture — our honest comparison walks through them. Nobody here will upsell you a replacement on the day you've just had a tooth out.

Questions people ask

The NHS said 3–4 weeks and I'm in pain now. Can you help?
Yes — this is one of the most common reasons people first call us. You don't have to be registered here, and you don't have to leave your NHS list: come in once, get out of pain, and go back to waiting if you wish. Emergency assessment £50, same day where possible — call before 10am for the best chance.
Does having a tooth out hurt?
The honest answer: the injection stings briefly, then you should feel pressure and movement but not pain. The dread is nearly always worse than the reality — most patients' first words afterwards are "was that it?". If you're very anxious, sedation removes even the dread.
Can you take a wisdom tooth out the same day?
Sometimes — if the X-ray shows a straightforward removal and there's clinical time, yes. More often the first visit calms the pain and infection, and the removal is booked promptly once we've planned it properly from the X-ray. Either way you leave the first visit out of pain, with a plan and a written price.
What about dry socket?
Dry socket is the main avoidable complication after an extraction — painful, but treatable and much less likely if you follow the aftercare: no smoking, no vigorous rinsing for 24 hours, and leave the clot alone. You'll get it all in writing, and if the pain gets worse after day two rather than better, call us and we'll see you.
I'm terrified. Can I be sedated for it?
Yes — IV sedation is £500 per session with a team trained in sedation care. You stay conscious but deeply relaxed, and most people remember almost nothing. You'll need someone to take you home. For many long-term avoiders, sedation is the bridge that finally gets the problem tooth sorted.
